🤤 This Soupy Cob Loaf Is The Perfect Winter Warmer

Plus: This triple-cheese chicken wrap recipe can save you time! 🌯

Hey everyone, happy Saturday!

Wow…it’s been a big few weeks at Tasty, but my goodness, has it been fun.

Mark (from BuzzFeedOz) and I attended Vivid Sydney 2025 last week and boy, did we enjoy ourselves! From cheesy sweet knafeh to smoky brisket, there was such a good variety of food. TBH, I’m already planning on going back. Check out our review here if you’re curious about what we ate!

Now, we’ve got some irresistible recipes about to go live, with Ryan and Wilko in the TastyOz kitchen as we speak. I hear that there is a lot cheese involved and that’s always a good sign in my eyes!

TikTok has blessed me again with the world’s biggest life hack — melting chocolate IN its packet, by placing it in a bowl of hot water, and then squeezing it over fresh strawberries. I made it the other day and the girls were so impressed. And I was stoked that I didn’t have to wash any more pots and pans!

Catch you next week for more delicious food!

Cross Section Chicken Wrap

Inspired by the extremely popular Cross Section sandwiches in Sydney, this is a triple cheese and chicken caesar-esque wrap that’s sure to save you a hungry wait in line. With cheese in the wrap, on the wrap and on top of the wrap, this is a recipe that, if shared, will probably have a queue snaking around the corner of your place before you know it.

Serves 3

Ingredients ✍️

  • 3 large bread wraps

  • 1 cooked rotisserie chicken

  • 1 small parmesan cheese block

  • 500g cheese (Tasty or Colby), shredded

  • 1 packet of fresh mozzarella or bocconcini cheese

  • 2 mixed leaf salad packets

  • 200g bacon or packet pre-made bacon bits

  • Pre-made bread croutons or homemade croutons

  • Mayonnaise

Method ✍️

  1. If using fresh bacon, cut into very small cubes and cook until crispy.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, shred the rotisserie chicken then mix with a hearty or healthy amount

    of mayonnaise.

  3. Tear the mozzarella/bocconcini into smaller bite-sized pieces and add to chicken.

  4. Add the mixed leaves, croutons and bacon. Combine this salad innards until leaves are

coated in mayo and everything is distributed nicely.

  5. Heat up a wide circular pan. On one side of the wrap, smear mayonnaise.

  6. To the hot pan, sprinkle your shredded cheese. Before it melts completely & crispy, add the mayo-side of the wrap.

  7. Allow the mayo and cheese to become a saucy-like coating for one side of the wrap, then

    remove from pan.

  8. Begin to assemble your chicken wrap.

  9. Add a large handful of the salad innards to the centre of the cheesed-wrap and roll tight, securing with foil or butcher’s paper.

  10. Slice open to reveal your incredible cross-section; grate an unholy amount of parmesan

    cheese onto the exposed halves.

  11. Add more parmesan and enjoy!

Choccy Milk French Toast

If choccy milk were a human, it’d be named ‘Nobody’…because nobody’s perfect. Until science makes that possible, this is the next best evolution of everyone’s favourite beverage — a french toast soaked in chocolate milk. With strawberries, choc-hazelnut drizzle and plenty more, this isn’t your Bordeaux buddy’s classic French toast. This is true blue French toast for just me and you.

Serves 2

Ingredients ✍️

  • 3 slices brioche bread (or any thick-cut white bread)

  • 3 eggs

  • 150ml chocolate milk

  • 1 tsp MasterFoods Vanillin Sugar

  • 1 tsp MasterFoods Cinnamon Sugar

  • Butter, for pan-frying

  • Strawberries, halved for garnish

  • Hazelnut/chocolate spread, melted in microwave to drizzle

  • Soft Icing sugar/drinking chocolate powder, to dust

  • Can of whipped cream, for topping it all

Method ✍️

  1. In a bowl, beat the eggs and choccy milk together.

  2. Add MasterFoods Cinnamon Sugar and mix until combined.

  3. Transfer the choccy milk mixture into a flat, deep dish plate for bread soaking.

  4. Add the brioche slices and allow to soak for one minute, at most, each side.

  5. On a medium-hot pan, add two knobs of butter. Allow to melt right up until it is close to browning.

  6. Add the choccy milk’d brioche to pan. Cook each side for approximately 3 minutes, avoiding burning.

  7. Once both sides sufficiently cooked, transfer to plate with kitchen paper to soak up excess butter.

  8. Assemble on serving plate; stack the french toast to your liking.

  9. Scatter chopped strawberries atop the toast.

  10. Sprinkle with MasterFoods Vanillin Sugar and/or MasterFoods Cinnamon Sugar.

  11. Drizzle over or dollop the melted hazelnut-choc atop the strawberries and toast.

  12. Sift over drinking chocolate power then/or the soft icing sugar.

  13. Finish with a healthy amount of whipped cream and one final, beautiful strawberry.

Tomato Soup Cob Loaf

Ingredients ✍️

  • 1 cob loaf

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 cup grated mozzarella

  • 10 tomatoes, quartered

  • 2 red onions, quartered

  • 8 garlic cloves

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp salt flakes

  • ½ tsp pepper

  • 2 cups vegetable stock

  • ½ cup cream

  • ¼ cup basil leaves

Method ✍️

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C.

  2. Place the cob loaf onto a lined baking tray.

  3. Cut a circle into the cob loaf and remove the interior. Rip into pieces and place around the cob loaf.

  4. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle over the cheese.

  5. Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Set aside.

  6. Line a tray with baking paper and add the tomatoes, onions, garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper.

  7. Bake for 35-45 minutes or until soft and roasted.

  9. Add extra vegetable stock to thin the soup out if desired.

  10. Place the cob onto the serving plate, and fill with the tomato soup.

  11. Top with an extra drizzle of cream, and fresh basil. Enjoy!

Helpful Tips And Tricks Every Air Fryer Owner Should Know

Always Preheat

Just like a regular oven, air fryers need to be preheated before any food goes in for the best results!

Give them at least 2 minutes to heat up. This ensures your food cooks evenly and reduces the overall cooking time.

Give 12cm Of Clearance

Make sure your air fryer isn’t pushed up against a wall. Give it enough space on all sides to allow for proper airflow — 12cm of clearance is a good rule of thumb.

Also, ensure the surface it rests on is heatproof to prevent any damage or burns.

Use High Smoke Point Oils

If oil is needed, use a non-aerosol spray, as aerosol ones can leave a sticky residue and damage nonstick coatings.

Oils with high smoke points (like avocado oil) are ideal. If you're using olive oil, avoid the extra-virgin kind, which has a lower smoke point.

Leave Grate In The Basket

If your air fryer comes with a grate or a wire rack, always use it in the basket!

It allows hot air to circulate around your food and keeps it from sitting in excess oil, helping the bottoms stay crispy.

Same Temps, Less Time

These days, frozen food packaging often conveniently includes cooking instructions for air fryers.

But if it doesn’t, the general rule of thumb is to use the same temperature as you would in an oven, but halve the cooking time.

Mix Seasonings With Oil

Because the air circulation in an air fryer is so strong, lightweight spices tend to get blown off.

To prevent this, mix your seasonings with oil before adding them to your food. This helps them stick to your food for more even flavouring.

Prevent Smoking With Bread

If you’re cooking greasy foods in your air fryer, don’t worry if you see some smoke! To prevent it, simply place a slice of bread at the bottom of the unit to soak up excess grease.

Alternatively, add some water to the air fryer drawer before cooking fatty foods.

Clean Basket After Every Use

Clean the frying basket after every use using soap, water, and a gentle sponge. Since it’s a non-stick surface, avoid using anything scratchy.

If food is stuck, sprinkle some baking soda on it and let it sit for 5 minutes before washing.
