🤤 This Malteser KFC Krusher’s Got Your 3pm Sugar Craving Sorted

Plus: We’ve got the secret to rich brownies with a crackly top and gooey centre 🍫

Hey foodie friends, happy Saturday! It’s time for another round-up of deliciousness from the TastyOz kitchen 😋.

Not gonna lie, this week’s been real hectic with recipe testing, filming, editing… you wouldn’t believe how exhausting food can be! But if it means helping you satisfy your cravings, I’m all in 🫶.

So this week, the theme is simple, quick and seriously satisfying, starting with Potato Gem Hash Browns. You just smash them, bake them, and voilà!

We’re also throwing it back to my uni days with a Mi Goreng jaffle. You already know instant noodles were my staple back then… and now they’re wrapped in bread! Chaotic Aussie-Asian fusion, but in the best way.

Oh, and can you believe it’s already been SIX years since Krushers were discontinued? Wild to think how much has changed since we last ordered one from our local KFC. Let me know on Instagram if you’ve got any other Krusher flavours you reckon I should try recreating 👀.

See you next week with more easy, fun recipes!

How To Make The Fudgiest

Brownies You’ll Ever Eat

Use Dutch-Processed Cocoa

For a richer chocolate flavour, use Dutch-processed cocoa powder. It’s darker, smoother and less acidic, which means a more balanced brownie with better texture. Just make sure to sift it into the mix!

For an extra boost, add a pinch of espresso powder to really bring out the chocolate.

Melt Chocolate With Butter

To get that glossy, fudgy texture in your brownies, melt the butter and chocolate together.

First, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat until it simmers. Then pour it straight over your chocolate. Let it sit for 2 minutes to soften, then whisk until smooth.

Use Dark Brown Sugar

Swap light brown sugar for dark brown sugar for a deeper flavour.

The extra molasses in dark brown sugar not only makes your brownies darker, it also adds a warm, toffee-like depth that pairs perfectly with chocolate. It also retains more moisture, so your brownies stay fudgier in the centre.

Whip Batter Thoroughly

For the fudgiest brownies, beat your eggs and sugars for longer than you think. Combine the sugars, vanilla, salt, and eggs in a bowl, then whip with a hand mixer on high for 10 minutes until thick.

This adds air to the mix and gives you tender brownies that won’t turn out too dense or flat.

Don’t Forget The Salt

It might seem counterintuitive, but salt actually enhances the sweetness of baked goods. Adding 2 tsp of kosher salt to your dry mix will do the trick!

Once your brownies are baked, try finishing them with a pinch of sea salt on top as well.

Lightly Drop The Pan

After 20 minutes of baking, take your brownies out and give them a light whack down on the kitchen counter. This helps crack the top and evens out the interior texture.

Put them back in for another 20 minutes, then let them cool. They’ll deflate a bit, which helps make your brownies more even!

Bake Until Edges Harden

To check if your brownies are done, insert a wooden skewer into the centre. If it comes out with moist crumbs and the edges look set and firm, they’re ready.

The centre will seem under-baked, but remember, the brownies will continue to set as they cool!
