Plus: Our guide to making the most eggceptional eggs!

Steaming, fresh and HOT TO GO — welcome back to the Tasty newsletter! My name’s Hameda and while I’m not a trained chef, my love of eating has transformed me into quite the cook (my passions are my passions).
This week, I headed into the Tasty kitchen to cook up every Afghan’s number one Iftar request — Mantu. As a first generation immigrant, learning and mastering my family recipes, so that I can share them with the people I love is something that’s near and dear to my heart. These delicious meat-filled dumplings are topped with a lentil curry and served on a bed of creamy yoghurt — and trust me — after just one bite, you won’t be able to resist another, and another.
Speaking of irresistible — our Milo mousse will have you tossing and turning all night thinking about it. And with just two ingredients, you’ll likely be wandering to your kitchen to whip up a nostalgic midnight-snack to die for. We’re also setting you up for success with our eggs 101 — so you can impress all your breakfast guests with a plethora of egg knowledge.
Finally, forget the lines (or travelling, should you not have a Yochi location near you), because we’ve uncovered the secret to a perfect at-home froyo experience that’ll beat the rest. Perfect for this lingering summer heat as we head into spring, IMHO.
That’s all from me for now — Ramadan Mubarak to all who celebrate, and even if you don’t, don’t be afraid of trying the delicious, festivity-inspired recipes coming to you next week.

Your Ultimate Guide To Cooking Eggs
If It Sinks, It’s SafeTo check if an egg is still fresh, fill a cup with water and gently drop the egg in. If it sinks, it’s good to eat! If it floats, it’s no longer fresh and should be discarded. The egg is floating because of the gas buildup from decomposition. | ![]() |
Remove Shells With FingerWhen you crack an egg into a bowl and a piece of loose eggshell falls in, wet your finger before sticking it in to try and get it out. The eggshell will stick to your finger so that you can pull it out easily with no mess. | ![]() |
Hot Spatula Stops StickingIf you're using a metal spatula for fried eggs, press it against the hot pan for a few seconds to heat it up in the oil. This helps the spatula slide under the eggs, making flipping way easier and keeping them from sticking to the pan. | ![]() |
Sift Eggs Before ScramblingPass your eggs through a sieve before scrambling them to remove any impurities (like egg shells). It will also make sure your whites and yolks are completely homogeneous, preventing strands of whites from appearing in your scramble, making it smoother. | ![]() |
Prevent Cracking With PinFor perfect hard-boiled eggs, poke a hole in the shell before boiling to avoid cracks. Just use a push pin to prick the wider end (the bottom where the air pocket is) before dropping them in the water. It helps release pressure and keeps the shells intact! | ![]() |
Keep Poached Eggs ShapedAdd 1 tbsp of vinegar to simmering water. Acid helps the whites set faster so they don't spread into the water. You can also pre-boil the eggs for 10 seconds before cracking them into the water to firm up the whites around the yolk, keeping their shape when poaching. | ![]() |
