🤤 DIY KFC Krushers: Milky Bar vs Skittles Showdown

Plus: keep the Aussie fast food train rolling with some Big Mac Sausage Rolls 🔥

Well hello hello you Tasty tots,

It’s my favourite day of the week: Saturday! It’s the day I get to chat to you all and share some seriously delicious recipes that you can whip up this weekend. Because let’s be honest, it’s not a weekend without a banging food that makes you feel like everything is actually gonna be okay.

On that note, today’s your lucky day because I have not one, but two DIY KFC Krusher recipes! Yeah, I know, I know, thank me later. First up is the Milky Bar Krusher which is as icy, dreamy and creamy as you can imagine it’d be. But if you’re searching for something more pinky peach/Elle Woods inspired, then the Skittles Krusher is for you. Honestly, with its sunset colours, it’ll brighten your week — just like Chappell’s new country song!

We also have some Big Mac Sausage Rolls in store for those of you that are craving Maccas, but really feel you like you should actually cook something.

Plus, next week we have some BIG THINGS in store — Halloumi Stuffed Garlic Flatbreads from Chef Ryan, another KFC Krusher flavour, and lastly…I’m going to The Royal Easter Show again! I’ll tell you what food is worth spending your money on, and what…isn’t (like that pasta from last year which I never wanna eat again).

Anyway, enjoy your Big Mac Sauso Rolls friends and catch you next week.

Rice 101
Your Ultimate Guide To Cooking Rice

Know Your Varieties

Here’s the scoop: short grain rice is plump — perfect for sushi and common in Southeast Asian cuisine. It clumps together, making it easy to pick up with chopsticks.

Long grain rice is (literally) longer, doesn't stick together and is fluffy rather than dense.

Adjust Water And Timings

Make note, the “golden ratio” of 2:1 (water-to-rice) isn’t one-size-fits-all!

Brown rice generally needs more water and a longer cooking time than white. Meanwhile, short-grained white rice needs a little less water (1.5:1) to achieve that signature stickiness.

Rinse Your Rice 3 Times

Always rinse your rice at least 3 times before cooking it — it removes the excess starch, preventing it from clumping together.

You can do this by either rinsing it in a strainer or by placing it in a bowl of water and using your hands to wash it!

Season With Salt

Like pasta, rice needs some seasoning to enhance its flavour!

Depending on the dish you are making, you can season your rice before or after it’s cooked. Seasoning it before allows the rice to be salted from inside out, while seasoning after gives you more control over the final taste.

Use Heavy-Bottomed Pots

Cooking on the stove? Make sure to use a heavy-bottomed pot to prevent it from burning. The downside of not stirring rice as it cooks is that it can burn.

A thin metal pot will get too hot on the bottom and scorch the rice instead of evenly conducting the heat.

Do Not Stir As It Cooks

Unless you’re cooking risotto (which you want to be starchy), resist any temptation to stir the rice as it cooks.

This will cause the rice to become starchy, dense and gluey, when what we want to achieve is a fluffy and light texture!

Use A Towel Under The Lid

No one wants their rice to turn into a mushy, soggy and wet mess. To avoid this, during the final minutes of cooking, place a tea towel underneath the lid. This absorbs the condensation that would otherwise drip back down.

Make sure the towel doesn't get near the flame though!

Let It Rest For 15 Minutes

As soon as your rice is done cooking, you’ll want to dig in — but resist this urge! Instead, with the towel still placed under the lid, let the rice sit off the heat for about 15 minutes.

This will redistribute the moisture throughout the rice and make it more consistent.
